Program changes and associated proposals

  • ENGL: New Minor in Journalism

    • Adds a new minor of mostly journalism courses with some interdisciplinary electives.
    • Approved pending of typo in catalog copy -- "ENGL 390" should be "ENGL 380."
  • ENV GEOL: Change Major

    • Sets a limit on EESC 481, 491, 493. Removes CHEM 111, 112. Adds EESC 412, 307. Removes EESC 326.
    • Clarify variable credit on 491, since it needs 3 credits to count as 493. Seems to discourage honors students from taking 493 because it doesn't count in their major.
    • Also suggest adding a statement about CHEM 111 and 112 to the catalog language.
    • Not approved so we can get clarification of 491 and 493 sequencing implications for Majors and departmental honors.
  • GEOL: Change Major

    • Changes are are parallel to ENV GEOL suggestions, so need to be revised and clarified.
    • Not approved pending clarification of sequencing implications for majors and honors.
  • MSGA

    • MSGA 555: New Course

      • In Course history, MSGA 450 should be GISC 450.
      • Approved pending correction of course prefix in the course history section.
    • MSGA 571: New Course

      • Creates a variable, special topics course for MSGA.
      • Approved.
    • MSGA 580: Change Title

      • "Geospatial Data and Services on the Web" becomes "Web GIS and Programming"
      • Approved.
    • MSGA: Program Change

      • Adds flexibility to the program, building on the options made possible by new faculty hiring in this discipine.
      • Approved.
    • GISC: Certificate Change

      • Updates the certificate requirements in to complement the changes in the MSGA program.
      • Approved.

More new courses

  • ARTS 316

    • New course in "Experimental Documentary" to fill a gap between ARTS 219 and ARTS 454.
    • Needs to be equated to previously offered special topic.
    • Approved pending course history correction.
  • ARTS 442

    • Prerequisite of "or POI" is confusing at registration, so we suggest revising to delete that phrase.
    • Approved pending suggested revision.
  • BIOL 482

    • Adds an option for students to continue individual research beyond BIOL 481.
    • Approved.
  • HIST 338

    • Along with HIST 337 and 339, this creates a three-course sequence in Arabic history.
    • Approved.
  • HIST 339

    • Along with HIST 337 and 338, this creates a three-course sequence in Arabic history.
    • Approved.
  • HIST 419

    • This is a new seminar for upper-level History majors on "The Great War in the Middle East."
    • Approved.
  • MUPR 275

    • This is a new "World Music" ensemble special topics class. It won't be equated with the previously-offered 344J in Indian music because that will presumably end up being replaced with 275-suffix special topic.
    • Approved.
  • MUSC 473

    • Adds a new special topics category for Music Business since otherwise MUTC was the only available options.
    • Approved pending correction of typographic error where the MUPR 275 document header is accidentally carried over.

Expedited proposals

  • BIOL 203 Change prereqs and description

    • Simplifies catalog listing so that instead of listing all science sequences, it just requires completing "natural science General Education requirement."
    • Approved.
  • BIOL 231 Change title and description

    • Updates to match what the course has been actually teaching.
    • Approved.
  • BIOL 481 Change prerequisites and description

    • Adds BIOL 269 and permission of instructor as prerequisites.
    • Approved.
  • COMM 483 Change prereqs

    • Removes COMM 205 as a prerequisite for Speaking Center consultants.
    • Approved.
  • DSCI 353 Crosslist

    • This crosslists the COB course on Decision Analysis to the CAS course DATA 353 so that it can count in the CAS Data Science Minor.
    • Approved pending clarification about whether a separate cover sheet is actually required.
  • EESC 481 Change description

    • Limits the total of hours in this course that can count toward the major.

    • This is approved, but was submitted with the "new course" cover sheet instead of the expedited cover sheet.
    • Approved pending resubmission on correct form.
  • HIST 384 delete

    • Approved.
  • MUPR change numbers

    • This is a comprehensive change to how Music Performance ensembles are numbered. The new alignment is more clear and consistent across levels.
    • Approved.
  • MUTH 490 change number and description

    • This becomes MUSC 490 to better accommodate the variety of topics possible for this senior seminar.
    • Approved.

Special majors

  • Four new special majors approved: two in Contemplative Studies, one in Journalism, and one in Digital Journalism. A change to a special major in Wildlife Conservation is also approved.
